Compensation given to 95 percent of Chadong households: CM Ibobi

The Government has already paid land compensation amounting to Rs 15 lakh each to around 400 household of Chadong village in Ukhrul district affected by Mapithel Dam project for resettlement, which constitute 95 percent of the households, Chief Minister O Ibobi told the Assembly on Tuesday.
In the meantime, the households are demanding additional amount of Rs 5 lakh each, the Chief Minister informed, adding if it is provided, about Rs 20 crore will be incurred as additional fund by the Government.
He also said the Government efforts are on to complete the Maphou Dam and Dolaithabi projects soon.
Ibobi stated this while discussing and voting on demands for grants in the House.
He informed the House that the Government is maintaining financial discipline claiming that Manipur is the best in this regard among the neighbouring States.
Ibobi said his Government is also trying its best to complete all projects related to irrigation and power generating components on time.
With generating public opinion and holding discussions encompassing civil society organizations the Government is also trying to export local brew to other States where there is a heavy demand for it to generate revenue, Ibobi said.
But he expressed his fear that allegations may be made in terms of spoiling the youth if liquor factories are established in the State.
Ibobi assured that the matters concerning setting up of a Cultural University and framing of cultural policy will be put up in the next Cabinet meeting.
He stated that there is no prospect on allocating additional amount of fund to the State Plan for external aided projects.
The Chief Minister also assured the House that the Government will look into the mater relating to slow movement of official files in the State Secretariat.
Motion of disapproval of policy cut was raised by MLAs L Ibomcha, K Shyam and Dr I Ibohalbi in the House.
The State Assembly later unanimously passed a total amount of Rs 1193,38,15,000 for six departments�Demand No-1 of State Legislature, Rs 48,05,16,000, Demand No-2 of Council of Ministers, Rs 6,71,66,000, Demand NO-3 of Secretariat, Rs 75,62,99,000, Demand No-5 of Finance, Rs 1016,23,65,000, Demand No-41 of Arts & Culture, Rs 29,66,99, 44,000 and Demand No-49 of Economics & Statistics, Rs 16,08,25,000 .
