Imphal, May 31 2022: Union minister of state for external affairs and education Dr RK Ranjan called upon all concerned to work for reaping the benefits of Centre's reformative Act East Policy for overall development in the region.

Speaking on the sidelines of the virtual meet 'Garib Kalyan Sam melan' held across the country on Tuesday, Dr Ranjan explained that the Act East Policy is an initiative to bring development in northeast region by way of connecting the region with other Southeast Asian countries.

"The cross border trade that opened under the policy should not be a gateway only for importing goods from other countries but taken advantage of to produce and export.

For this, we need to work hard to become producers and exporters", he said.

The union minister said that changes are taking place in almost every held in the country, including northeast region under the initiative-reformation, perform and transform-mantra of Prime Minister.

"Modi has an idea of less government with large governance.

It is through this mantra, he initiated the reformation which will bring transformation after performance" he said.

Dr Ranjan noted that from the very day of assuming office as the Prime Minister eight years ago, there has been a revolution in the coun try's economy under reformation initiatives of Narendra Modi.

"Economic revolution did take place from 1980 but development pace could not be accelerated as the benefits of the initiative did not reach the public but went to the pocket of only a few section of the society", he added.

Knowing this fact, Modi initiated the reformation under which over 1500 redundant laws of British era were abol ished and started amending laws like Armed Forces (Special) Powers Act to suit with time.

The recent move for partial repeal of the Act from northeast is a part of the reformation.

Moreover, reformation of land law is a must so as to avail the benefits of various farmers' welfare schemes by the deserving farmers, he stressed.
