Tree plantation drive

Units under command of HQ IGAR (South) organized a tree plantation drive on April 27, 28 and 30 at various part of the State.
Thoubal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles in association with Forest Department organised a tree plantation drive on April 27, said IGAR adding that the drive was organised as part of the 'Green India Initiative' to conserve the environment.
The drive commenced with an informative lecture on 'Deforestation and Global Warming' followed by tree plantation, it said adding that a total of 2,000 saplings of multiple varieties mostly fruit-bearing and long life span trees were planted in different locations.
Likewise, Tamenglong Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles also carried out a massive 'tree plantation drive' at village Azuiram in the Area of Responsibility of Company Operating Base Azuiram on April 28 .
Around 500 saplings of different varieties including fruit trees were planted and nurtured during the drive by Assam Rifles troops.
Subsequently, Joupi, Sehlon and Sajik Tampak Battalions of 28 Sector Assam Rifles carried out a tree plantation drive at Joupi, New Samtal, Aigejang & Chamol villages of Chandel District on April 28 .
A total of 1,150 saplings of locally available flora which includes teak, pine, mulberry, gooseberry and guava among others were planted during the drive.
