Imphal, December 30 2021: The Health Directorate has clarified that there is no new case of Omicron in Manipur, other than the first case reported on December 27 .

In an office memorandum, Health Director Dr K Rajo Singh said that all primary and secondary contacts of the first Omicron case which was detected on December 27 have been sent for Whole Genome Sequencing to IBSD Takyelpat.

Tracing and testing of secondary contacts is continuing, he said.

The Health Director advised all to adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour and wear masks mandatorily as the Omicron variant is reported to be highly transmissible as compared to other variants of COVID-19 .

"Masks have been found effective against all variants of COVID-19," he said.

Stating that there is no need to panic, Dr Rajo appealed to all to vaccinate against COVID-19 .
