Thoubal, October 30 2024:
A commotion broke out at Yairipok Tampha Keithel today owing to a dispute between the fruit vendors and nearby grocery shopkeepers.
The fruit vendors of the market have accused the shopkeepers of selling fruits in their shops during big festivals and causing a significant loss to the vendors.
They have urged the relevant officials to look into the matter and resolve the issue.
An unnamed fruit vendor has shared that the 23 fruit vendors at the Keithel have official vendor cards issued by the Yairipok Municipal Council.
Stating that the fruit vendors have worked here for a long time, she claimed that the same dispute arose last year as well.
She said that as the grocery shops start selling fruits during festival season, the fruit vendors suffer monetary losses as a portion of their produce goes unsold and becomes spoiled.
She urged the grocery shops to stick to selling grocery items while the fruit vendors will continue to sell fruits.
