Service extension for awardee teachers

Imphal, March 29 2015: In a major moral boost to excellent teachers of the State, Manipur Governor has announced a scheme for extension of services of teachers who are National/State Awardees.

The services of the teachers conferred with National Award shall be extended for a maximum period of two years for National Awardees and one year for the State Awardees respectively beyond the date of superannuation with the same status and powers enjoyed by them before the extension is solicited with effect from December 31, 2012, an official release said on Sunday.

Teachers rendering outstanding meritorious service are given public recognition by conferring National Award by the Union Government and State Award by the State Government.

Now, the Governor of Manipur, in partial modification of OM of even number dated 17th October, 2014 of Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms (Personnel Reforms), with a view to get optimum utilization of their excellent services, has made a scheme for extension of services of such teachers having been conferred with National/State Award for their outstanding contribution in the realm of education subject to physical fitness, mental alertness and willingness to work beyond the date of superannuation.

The teachers whose services were extended under the scheme will be designated as "Awardee teachers" .

During the period of extension they shall get a salary which will include basic pay plus grade pay along with other applicable allowances as of the last pay drawn on attaining the age of superannuation less pension.

The salary is to be fixed by Education (S) Department in consultation with the Finance Department, Government of Manipur for each case.

The awardee teachers whose services are extended shall stand discharged on completion of their term of extension.

No further extension shall be allowed beyond the one year period for the State awardees and beyond two years for National Awardees.

The extension will be applicable for National/State Awardees who retire on or after December 31, 2012 .

Meanwhile, All Manipur National and State Awardee Teachers' Association has lauded the Manipur Government for issuing an order for extending service of awardee teachers in the State.
