Imphal, March 29 2012:
All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) has appealed to the home minister of Manipur for deliverance of justice regarding the brutal and heinous crime committed on March 22 against **** , a housewife, and her brother-in-law Saitharung.
In a memorandum submitted to the home minister, Manipur, AMTU stated that **** w/o ***** of Longlei village, was raped at gun point after dragging her away from her brother-in-law, who was also assaulted, by Chungkham Ibomcha, Kshetrimayum Kenedy, Salam Biren and Laikhuram Rohit Singh.
This is a crime against humanity, and it indicated that the culprits are dangerous and deserve to be segregated from the society with death penalty or life imprisonment, the memorandum stated.
The tribal body stated that the crime committed by the four culprits, two of whom are IRB personnel, was unforgivable on which stern punitive action must be fixed, so that the criminals do not repeat similar crimes in the future.
It suggested that the psychological implication of the crime committed by the four criminals be exposed, to expedite punishment (death penalty or life imprisonment) through untempered legal proceedings, to terminate the two IRB men from service, never to release them on bail or bond and Prevention of Discrimination and Atrocities on Scheduled Tribes Act 1989 be incorporated on the culprits.
It may be recalled that the victim, hailing from Khoupum Nungleiband, Tamenglong district was gang raped by the four culprits at a place near Keinou Awang Leikai along Tiddim Road on March 22 at around 2 A.M.after forcibly dragging her away at gun point from her brother-in-law.
The victim was on her way to the market to sell chillies (u-morok) on the Shaktiman truck that her brother was driving when the four culprits came in a Santro car and put her in the car after looting the truck drivers traveling with them.
