SWA to conserve seven wetlands

Imphal, December 28 2019: The State Wetland Authority has deci-ded to conserve seven wet- land bodies - Ikop Pat, Kachouphung Pat, Zaimeng Pat, Yaral Pat, Pumlou Pat, Waithou Pat and Uttra Pat.

The decision was taken during the second meeting of the State Wetland Authority today morning which was presided by its Chairman Th Shyamkumar at Old Secretariat conference hall.

Officials of Forest and Environment Department, MAHUD, Rural Development, Fisheries, Water Re- sources, PHED, Tourism, Revenue, LDA and Pollution Control Board attended the meeting.

The decision was taken to revive the wetlands after minutely studying their present conditions, said sources.

It may be noted that besides these seven wetlands, there are several others in the State which have shrunk over the years due to human encroachment and lack of conservation activities.
