Imphal, August 28 2019:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) president Peter Laishram on Wednesday launched scathing attack on the Government saying it has failed miserably despite the seizure of drugs worth crores recently.
He was speaking at the 54th foundation day of AMSU celebrated at DM College Arts Ground, Imphal today.
It is Government's major 'failure' that it couldn't even identify and nab the drug lords, Pater hinted and said that AMSU is suspicious about possible involvement of some powerful individuals in the drug related cases.
Identifying drug abuse as a threat to the future of the State, Peter insisted that the cases be investigated thoroughly to arrest and book all those involved and curb rampant drug menace.
Stringent punishment should be awarded to all involve in drug related cases, he said.
Apart from the State's and the police's efforts to curb drug smuggling/abuse, youth should play active role and initiate various social programmes/activities to address the issue, he added.
Commenting on the death of Babysana, Peter said that State Government and Department concerned should formulate and implement strict regulation and registration Act to regulate private schools and hostels.
Authorities concerned should investigate Babysana's incident thoroughly to deliver justice, he added.
Talking about other key issues of the State, he also criticised the Government and accused it of playing politics to draw away attention of the public from major issues.
Speaking at the event, AMSU HRD secretary Bruce Pebam asserted that the various issues plaguing the State are results of State's 'dependent nature' .
Most of the issues would be solved if the State has its own sound economic source and 'rigid policy'.
He identified AFSPA as one of the major reasons which has been hindering the growth of the people and the State.
He also pointed out CAB as one major threat that would threaten the identity and survival of indigenous population and stressed the need for a sound policy in the form of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system to safeguard the people's and the State's interest.
AMSU and Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, RIMS also organised a voluntary blood donation camp at the AMSU HQs office as a part of the celebration.
Members, volunteers of AMSU and others donated blood during the camp.
Peter Laishram hoisted the union's flag to mark the event.
Former AMSU presidents - Ayekpam Dijen, Thokchom Suresh, advisor AMSU Paotinthang Lupheng, Leimakol president MC Rita attended the event .
