Imphal, July 28 2014 :
With the government failing to take a definite stand on the issue of implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State even on the last day of the Assembly session which ended today, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit (JCILPS) has pledged that it will not step back from its ongoing agitation and appealed to the public to continue with their protests.
Addressing a press meet somewhere in Imphal East district today, Ibotombi Khuman, convener of JCILPS, recalled that as part of the ongoing movement for implementation of ILP system in the State, a memorandum was submitted to the House by women folks on July 18 urging to take a firm stand on the issue before the end of the Assembly session.
But no such thing has happened.
He also slammed Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh for making unwarranted remarks while giving statement on ILP during the Assembly session today and denounced the conduct of all 60 MLAs for remaining silent spectator over the remark of the Chief Minister.
Ibobi reportedly stated that it would be a joke to pass a Bill on ILP in every session of the House and also condemned all the 60 MLAs for remaining silent spectator over the remark of the CM.
Observing that the call of the CM for convening an all-party meeting and then to urge the Centre to implement ILP system in the State are mere tactics to suppress the escalating movement; Ibotombi asserted that the issue of ILP system, which had been removed from Manipur, would have been resolved long long time back if all the 60 MLAs have enough political will.
He also lamented that nothing has been discussed in the Assembly on the arrest of several women folks and students while staging protest in connection with the ILP demand as well as on the excesses committed by the police personnel on the students.
Khomdram Ratan, co-convener of JCILPS, who was also present during the press meet, said that the ongoing protest is the fallout of the government's failure to implement the ILP system in the State despite passing of two resolutions in 2012 and 2013 .
He also decried the 60 MLAs for allegedly taking the issue of ILP lightly and failing to work in accordance to the wishes of the people.
