Imphal, June 28 2016:
Taking strong exception to the purported ini-
tiative of the State Government to shift the Takyel Industrial
Training Institute (ITI) elsewhere, students of the institute staged
a protest demonstration at the gate of their campus today.
ITI Students' Union finance secretary Sh Santosh said that
more than 500 students are studying 34 different trades at the
institute at present which was established in 1959.
A section of media published a report on June 22 about the
Government's move to shift ITI Takyel to ITI Phaknung after
giving away all its existing infrastructure to the National In-
stitute of Technology (NIT).
It is a matter of serious concern for the students of ITI
Takyel if the news report is true, Santosh said.
Meanwhile, due preparations are being made to instal new
sophisticated machines under National Craftsman and Voca-
tional Training (NCVT) at ITI Takyel.
Given this scenario, shifting the institute elsewhere would
be a big loss for all the students, Santosh said.
He then appealed to the Government to review the decision
of shifting ITI Takyel elsewhere else the students would be
compelled to launch different forms of agitation.
Notably, ITI Takyel campus is also home to NIT and
Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT) .
