Distressed PDS beneficiaries of Dungrei stage sit in protest

The distressed beneficiaries of Dungrei locality of Hungpung village, Ukhrul sought immediate clarification from District Administration, Ukhrul about their monthly PMGKAY rice quotas issued for the locality.
A sit in protest was staged at the Dungrei junction, Hungpung to register their protest against the FPS agents for deprivation and distributing lesser quantity of PMGKAY rice to them.
Speaking to the media, one Thotreishang Kasommung stated that despite the Chief Minister's assurance of 5 kg rice to every individual under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), irrespective of ration card holders or non locals during the pandemic lockdown, the residents of Dungrei, Vashimtang, Chuiyatang recieved only 3 kgs of rice.
Kasommung went on to mention that the same matter of complaint was also put forth to the Hungpung village headman for rectification of the discrepancies in distribution of PMGKAY rice.
However, they did not get any satisfactory response from the Village Authority which compelled the beneficiaries to organise democratic protest to show their disappointment and resentment.
They also mentioned that apart from rice, the locality is yet to receive dal issued by CAF&PD.
The beneficiaries expressed their dismayal, stating that there is no transpancy in the system and also mentioning that Rs 20 per ration card was charged as transportation cost for Vashimtang area.
According to sources, there is no increase in the PDS rice allocation for 44-AC Ukhrul.
It might be mentioned that monthly rice allocation for PMGKAY rice is 2987 quintals, while NFSA is 3009 quintals.
The aggrieved beneficiaries urged the concern MLA and the State Government for immediate intervention and to ensure fair distribution of PMGKAY rice to its beneficiaries.
