TSE publisher promises to help minor rape victims

The Sangai Express publisher Sapam Nishikanta has promised to help all minor rape victims and their families in whatever way possible as long as he is alive.
A felicitation function was held today under the aegis of the Indian Women Against Crimes, Manipur at their Canchipur office in honour of Chingtham Ingobi (23) of Khongjom and Nandeibam Tompok (20) of Yumnam Patlou who went to Delhi on bicycle and toured every corner of Manipur separately taking a message against violence on women.
One 72 year old Budha from Sagolband who would tour the whole North East region taking a similar message against violence on women was also felicitated at the same function.
Former Prosecution Director Ng Tejkumar, The Sangai Express (Manipuri) Editor Khogendra Khomdram, Naharolgi Thoudang Editor Khoirom Loyalakpa, and Indian Women Against Crimes advisors Nongmeikappam Ganga and Soubam Sobita attended the function as presidium members.
The same function was also attended by family members of rape victims where Indian Women Against Crimes Manipur secretary Robita gave an account of trauma, stigma and depression suffered by rape victims.
As families of rape victims poured out their grievances and pain, a sombre atmosphere prevailed throughout the function where many people extended aid to the unfortunate victims.
Sapam Nishikanta who attended the function as a special guest extended monetary aid of Rs 10,000 each to six families of rape victims.
He announced that he would donate Rs 50,000 every year which would form a component of the annual award Akhangkanbi Ima which may be instituted by the Indian Women Against Crimes.
Nishikanta further announced that he would extend all possible from his side and on behalf of The Sangai Express to all innocent rape victims.
Ng Tejkumar pledged that he would do everything to ensure that justice is delivered to rape victims within five/six months.
Pointing out that a law under which people convicted for raping minor girls would be awarded capital punishment has been passed, Tejkumar said that rapes are not only crimes but also sins.
Loyalakpa and Khogendra too assured all possible assistance to rape victims from the side of media.
They hailed all the activists who have been campaigning against violence on women and children.
