Imphal, April 26 2018:
Strongly condemning the 'gun threat' served to a staff of RS Transport allegedly by a Minister's brother, a sit-in-protest was staged in front of the transport office at MG Avenue, Thangal Bazar today.
Speaking to media persons, Daniel Waikhom, one of the staff said that a Tata DI truck loaded with betel leaves and in possession of Transit Pass issued by Forest Beat Office, Sekmai reached MG Avenue yesterday at around 8 pm for unloading.
He alleged that at around 11 pm, a Minister's brother turned up and asked the truck driver to produce the Transit Pass to which the driver complied with.
He said that after the Minister's brother invalidated the Transit Pass which was signed by the concerned Forest Beat Officer, the driver gave its details including the required formalities and payment of tax for procurement of betel leaf.
However, he took out a gun from his vehicle and threatened to kill the driver.
He also took away two Tata DI trucks loaded with betel leaves, Daniel alleged.
He drew the attention of the authority concerned to intervene into the matter, saying such a high-handedness meted out to civilians by relatives of MLAs or Ministers is unacceptable.
He said that a case has been registered at City police station in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, a close aide of the Minister's brother has negated the allegation that the two trucks loaded with betel leaves were taken away forcefully.
Talking to media persons, he clarified that the trucks were taken away to ascertain whether they were loaded with the sanctioned number of betel leaves or not.
The trucks were released this morning after counting the number of betel leaves brought by them, he said.
He also termed the allegation that the two trucks were seized by the Minister's brother from a godown at gun point as baseless and concocted.
