Sorokhaibam Biren of Bishnupur Ward number 7, who won the Pride of India award in the recently held 105th Indian Science Congress, was felicitated at Manipur Press Club today.
Sorokhaibam Biren, who realised the potential of using power looms by the weavers of the State instead of the traditional loom, has invented around 57 different models of power looms till date.
He created his first power loom in 2002 .
In the 105th Indian Science Congress, he was conferred the Pride of India award by Governor Dr Najma Heptulla in recognition of his innovation.
The power looms produced by Biren are utilised by Manipur Modern Power Loom Entrepreneurs Association, which organised the felicitation programme today.
National Small Scale Industries Corporation Ltd Deputy Manager, L Ibetombi, Manipur Modem Power Loom Entrepreneurs Association Chairman S Mangi, Maipakpi Maternity and Child Care Hospital Managing Director, Dr Kh Tomba, Additional Advocate General S Rupachandra, Assistant Solicitor General of India, S Suresh, retired Commander in-charge CRPF, K Nogen, Commander in-charge CRPF, Mongsangei Ranbir Singh, DIC Thoubal and retired general manager MIDC, Y Raghumani, MIDC chairman P Loken and social worker S Nilakamal attended the event as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
