Demand for yet another district in offing

Yet another demand for a separate district came up before the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundaries in its hearing held today.
This was informed to media persons today by the Secretary of Demand Committee on Upgradation of Pherzawl ADC to DC Dr L Pulamte, who gave his statement to the Committee today.
According to him, a demand for upgradation of Pherzawl ADC to a separate district has been placed before the Committee.
On the other hand, the All Tribal Chiefs and Public Grievances Forum, Chandel pressed for re-location of Pallel Police Station and Sugnu Police Station within Chandel district in the public hearing of the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundaries held today, Talking to media persons after giving its statement in the public hearing held in the conference hall of Chief Secretary DS Poonia's office chamber today, Advisor cum Spokesperson of All Tribal Chiefs and Public Grievances Forum, Chandel Yangkholet Haokip pointed out that most of the villages located around Pallel police station and Sugnu police station are inhabited by tribals who pay their Hill House Tax in Chandel district and in case of any incidents, the villagers have to lodge their complaint with Chandel police.
Voting rights of the villagers are also in Chandel.
Considering all this, it would be proper to re-locate Pallel Police Station and Sugnu Police Station within Chandel district, argued Yangkholet Haokip.
Yangkholet further observed that the Forum would have no objection in case people of Kakching started raising demand for a separate district.
But inclusion of the nearby tribal villages within Kakching would be opposed.
The same issue has been brought to the notice of the Committee during the public hearing today, he disclosed.
Today's public hearing was presided over by Chief Secretary DS Poonia.
DGP Y Joykumar and other officials of the Revenue Department were also present at the occasion.
Headed by the Chief Secretary as its Chairman, Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundaries has been set up with the stated purpose of demarcating the boundaries of all the nine existing districts of the state before meeting the demand for creation any new districts.
