Moirang, August 25 2024:
For Manipur to move forward and develop, she must become self-reliant, said former rebel leader RK Meghen.
He made the statement when he was attending the 46th foundation day of Kwasiphai Youth Voluntary Organization (KYVO), organised under the theme "Manipur the way forward" at Ibudhou Nongda Lairen Pakhangba Laibung, Kwasiphai yesterday.
Manipur has a rich culture and history which dates back to more than 2000 years.
But, the civilization's backbone has been systematically broken by many detrimental policies.
People are now dependent on imported food and borrowed oxygen.
To break this shackle, Manipur must become self-reliant, RK Meghen said.
The State, he said, must focus on agriculture for a robust economy and self-reliance.
Moreover, there must be unity among the people and all the indigenous communities must coexist and embrace the State as their own, he said.
When the communities are interdependent on each other economically, their bond will become stronger and a collective identity will emerge, he said.
RK Meghen continued that the people must bring about a democracy that truly represents them and not the rich and powerful.
