CCpur, July 25 2018:
Explaining why the 24 hours bandh was called, the Kuki Students' Organisation, general headquarters in a statement today said that the massive response the bandh drew underlines the resentment felt by the people over the false allegations levelled by Thadou Students Association and against the insult meted out to KSO by the Government which held talks with TSA.
On the charges that KSO activists, who were against the indefinite bandh called by the Joint Tribal Student Bodies, Manipur on July 6 assaulted some TSA bandh volunteers, the KSO said it was a baseless charge and hence it did not deem it fit to respond to the charges.
However on July 22 the issue resurfaced, said KSO and added that the allegations have become too serious as it challenges the integrity of KSO, said the student body and added that KSO Churachandpur was asked to furnish a detailed report on the allegation.
The KSO Churachandpur evidently proved their innocence that no TSA bandh volunteers were beaten by KSO CCpur, said the student body and added that on the contrary KSO Churachandpur executives were threatened.
The KSO GHQs also issued a statement yesterday declaring that it will not support the indefinite bandh and resolved to thwart by all means any effort of the bandh supporters to impose the bandh.
It was also categorically made clear that the KSO will not tolerate any attempt by the Government to hold talks with JTSB over this false allegation and unfounded accusation.
However the Government engaged the TSA in talks yesterday and assured them that their demands will be taken care of.
This has infuriated the people which culminated in the bandh called by KSO CCpur effective today, it added.
The KSO never supported JTSB in their agitations on the MIL and MU issues because these are not issues that belong to one or two tribes alone, but issues facing the whole tribal community of the State.
ATSUM as the apex tribal student body has been handling the issues in the best interest of the tribal students.
In fact the MIL issue was already settled by ATSUM with the Government and a Cabinet decision was already taken and only notification was awaited.
The MU issue was also addressed and handled by ATSUM, MUTSU, ANSAM and KSO in the best capable way, it added.
