Imphal, July 25 2014 :
Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) General Headquarters has taken strong exception to the excesses of the state police on the agitating students demanding Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
In a statement issued by its General Secretary Seiboi Haokip, KSO said that it strongly condemned the way the students were manhandled by the police.
"It seems the Manipur government has no options other than lathi-charge, physical assault and shutting down schools.
The world has now seen the ineptness of the state police in handling situation of the kind.
It is unfortunate that students of the fairer sex were subjected to the same treatment as the boys.
This is just unfair", Seiboi said.
Pointing out that agitated students were just voicing their grievances to the government, Seiboi observed that the onus of conveying the grievances to the rightful authority is on the state government.
But the state police are making the situation worst by using force.
The Home Minister must understand that to resort to violent means at the drop of a hat is uncalled for on his part.
"To shut down the schools for a day or two won't solve the problem.
The students are not agitating to disrupt the assembly session; they are agitating because their cause is being neglected by the government.
The students will carry on the agitation beyond the assembly session now that the cat is out of the bag.
So closing the classrooms is not the ideal solution", Seiboi said, adding that KSO has nothing to do with the movement, it is just concerned over the manner the situation is being handled.
