Imphal, June 25 2021:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manipur Pradesh observed the 46th Black Day of Democracy virtually at the party's head office, Nityaipat Chuthek here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion from his Secretariat office, CM N Biren pointed out that the day serves as a reminder of the many attempts made to stifle the democratic spirit of India.
He continued that senior leaders of BJP have always proven to be committed leaders, such as PM Modi and former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who have made their mark in the pages of history.
Urging all concerned to prevent a repeat of another Black Day in the future, the CM said that the governance style of BJP is for the betterment of the people.
It does not discriminate like the Congress government did, he said, while expressing that he is proud to be part of a patriotic and selfless political party like BJP.
BJP general secretary Deben, who also attended the observance, said that India is proud to be biggest democracy in the world.
However, the country went into a dark period after then PM Indira Gandhi put the entire country under emergency on June 25, 1975."Congress often accuses BJP of violating the Constitution.
However, the country's history has witnessed the former throwing people including journalists into prison for speaking against the then government.
This is clearly a violation of the Constitution.
Presently, BJP is accused of throwing its dissenters into prison cells, which is completely baseless.
If someone has committed a crime, then he/she should be punished accordingly", he remarked.
The observance was attended by Sangathan Mantri Abhay Giri and founders and senior members of the party.
