Imphal, June 25 2015 :
Meitei Youth Front, South East Asia (MYF) and International Meitei Forum (IMF) on Thursday vowed to intensify the ongoing counter blockade against the indefinite economic blockade enforced by All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) .
The counter blockade will be intensified from tomorrow, Friday to counter the ATSUM strike that began on June 22 midnight, MYF president Ng Mangal told reporters at Manipur Press Club.
He made it clear that the counter strike has been enforced by the two organizations to register a strong protest against the demand for complete transfer of Land Records to the hill districts, a key demand raised by ATSUM.
Imposing economic blockade on the highways in the State by ATSUM by adopting "divide and rule policy" among the communities is totally irrational, he said.
He cited that several organizations like Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) and Naga People's Organisation (NPO) have described the indefinite economic blockade as a bad step.
Ng Mangal alleged ATSUM is imposing the strike in its own self-interest.
While lauding the tribal student body for showing brotherly love and feeling, he described its activities as shameful.
Mangal stated that everyone knows the suffering inflicted on the people by the student organization and warned that a public meeting will be organized soon to decide whether the office of ATSUM will be further allowed to function in Imphal if it continues with its policy of fomenting tension and discords among the different groups of the State.
On the other hand, Mangal was unhappy with the Assam Rifles for interfering with the counter blockade in Pallel area on Wednesday and dubbed the act as extending support to ATSUM's stir.
