Four UGs, one OGW held

Imphal, June 25 2011: Five UG activists including an over-ground member of PREPAK were arrested by police commandos and security forces in separate counter insurgency operations in the last two days.

The over-ground worker of PREPAK was apprehended by troops of 33 Assam Rifles of Loktak Brigade yesterday.

He was identified as Ningthoujam Sanatomba (56) son of Late Ningthoujam Kala Singh of Khordak Mayai Leikai of Bishnupur district.

A statement of the PIB (DW), Imphal alleged that he is involved in recruitment, tax collection and extortion related activities of the outfit.

He has bee handed over to Kumbi PS, the statement added.

Four UG activists including two PREPAK, a KLA and one UNLF activists were arrested by the Imphal West police commandos in separate operations, a statement of the Senior Imphal West SP said.

The UNLF activist identified as Khomdram Chinglen @ Ibungochouba (42) son of Kh Ibocha of Mongsangei Makha Leikai was nabbed by the police commandos in a joint operation with 28 Assam Rifles from his locality near Mira Public School yesterday around 6.30 pm.

One of the PREPAK cadres identified as Wangjam Gobin Singh (32) son of Late Chaoba of Thoubal Khuman Awang Leikai was arrested by the police commandos in another operation near the Axis ATM booth, RIMS road today around 7.30 am.

A mobile phone handset was seized from the activist who was assigned to extort money from government departments for party fund, the statement said.

The other activist of the same outfit identified as Mayengbam Manimukta Singh @ Naoton (41) son of M Haimo of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai near NRL petrol pump was also nabbed by a team of Imphal West police commandos today.

One Chinese mobile handset was seized from his possession, the statement said.

The KLA cadre identified as Sonkhothang @ Thangboi (35) son of Haolet Khongsai of Saikul, New Beljang was arrested yesterday around 3 pm from near TD office.

He was involved in the kidnapping of one Hollet, chief of Dampi village and Paothang, secretary of the village for ransom.

He along with one LK Paokholun of the group had kidnapped them, the statement added.
