IMC employees threatens to fast unto death

Citing non-implementation of 6th Pay Commission for employees of Municipality Councils in all the nine districts of the State, the Joint Co-ordinating Committee formed to press demand has decided to launch various intense agitation including fast unto death stir.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at Manipur Press Club here today, Phuritsabam Chaoba, general secretary of the committee, pointed out that under the Municipal Council 1994 Act, employees should be given the privilege of getting same salary like other employees of government departments.
Moreover, employees of the municipal councils too have been buying essential commodities at the same price like other employees who enjoy 6th Pay Commission.
He pointed out that the recommendation of the 6th Pay Commission was implemented in the State from 2006 but not to speak about enjoyment of 6th Pay commission, employees of Municipal councils are yet to get their their 15 months' salary of 5th Pay Commission.
Even though the IMC is a semi-government department, its administration is being maintained by the State Government.
Putting aside the IMC, the 6th Pay Commission has been already implemented in the MUDA department which is a registered body under PDA, he noted.
Pointing out that sit-in-protests and cease work strikes have been staged by the employees demanding implementation of 6th Pay Commission and pension for employees of the department in the past, he said that many round of talks too have been held with MLAs and Chief Minister in this regard but no positive response has been given so far.
He went on to say that employees of IMC have started attending the department starting from 5.30 am since December 17 and a joint meeting of Imphal IMC, Bishnupur IMC, Mayang Imphal IMC, Thoubal IMC, Moirang IMC, Nambol IMC, Ningthoukhong IMC, Jiri IMC and Kakching IMC will be convened on December 26 to discuss the future course of agitation to be taken up for ensuring fulfillment of the long pending demand.
