Meeting on promotion of SHGs

Imphal, June 24 2016 : A one day meeting of bankers, Line Depart- ments, NABARD and ACCORDS NGO was held at 3D Hotel conference hall, Senapati today for promotion of Self Help Groups and credit linkages, our correspondent reports.

Attending as chief guest, Z Thole Paul, Chief Manager, SBI/LDM, Senapati spoke in length on the growing importance of SHGs.

He advised the SHPI (ACCORDS) to follow the NABARD/SHG guidelines and promote SHGs so that banks can be confident in ex- tending credit loans to them.

Hepuni Bismarck, Chief Manager of SBI, Senapati branch elaborated on the banker's perspective of extending loans to the SHGs and the parameters that has to be met by the SHGs to be rated credit worthy.

He lauded NABARD and ACCORDS for initiating the SHG promotion, which according to him is one of its kind in Senapati.

He expressed his readiness in providing saving linkages and credit linkages to the SHGs provided that they have records of good performance.

MS Jerome, Managing Director, AC- CORDS gave a power point presentation on ACCORDS profile and target areas of inter- vention for promotion of 100 SHGs under the aegis of NABARD in respect of bank service areas.

Thokchom Kiran, DDM, Senapati, also gave a power point presentation on NABARD initiatives of SHGs promotion and support services given to SHGs.

He elabo- rated on the traits of a good SHG.

He also emphasized on the convergence of Govern- ment programme with SHG activities and requested banks to include new SHGs in their target.

Present in the meeting were the Branch Managers of CBI, UCO, HDFC, SBI and Heads of Department of Veterinary, DIC, NABARD, NERCORMP/IFAD/NEC, KVK and ACCORDS (Self Help Group Promoting Institute).
