Imphal, May 24 2021:
BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson Elangbam Johnson has appealed to all concerned to refrain from politicising the fight against Covid-19 and carrying out election campaign under the pretext of helping the people.
Speaking to media persons after distributing relief items to families in containment zones of Keishamthong AC on Monday, Johnson highlighted how the state and its people are facing untold hardships due to the pandemic and related restrictions imposed by the government to curb the transmission.
Number of infected people is increasing every day and more than 10 people are dying on daily basis.
The state government under the leadership of chief minister N Biren is doing its best to fight the pandemic and it is not the right time to play politics in this situation, he said.
He also appealed to all to pay attention towards containing the spread of the virus instead of trying to take political opportunity to woo voters in the name of helping the public.
As the pandemic is affecting people in all constituencies of the state, Keishamthong AC is no exception and it has nearly 200 houses in containment zones.
He has also been helping those families by providing relief materials.
But it was unfortunate that there was an incident of altercation between two intending candidates while carrying out such relief works.
Indulging in such blame game during the height of the pandemic is uncalled for, he said while urging local clubs and Meira Paibi organisations not to get involved in such issues.
On the other hand, an intending candidate of Keishamthong AC is using 'Press' tag on his vehicle used in relief works and election related activities.
Using 'Press' tag by intending candidates amounts to tarnishing the credibility of press, which is considered the fourth estate of the democracy, he said while enquiring if AMWJU is aware of this.
He then appealed to the particular candidate to refrain from using 'Press' tag on his vehicle being used in relief item distribution activities.
