Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan launched at Kamjong

Kamjong, July 23 2024:
Deputy Commissioner Kamjong Rangnamei Rang Peter IAS today launched the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) at the Sadbhavana Mandap of Kasom Khullen Headquarters in Kamjong district.
Kamjong is one of the 272 districts across 32 State/Union Territories that have been identified as the most vulnerable in terms of usage of drugs in the country.
These vulnerable districts were identified on the basis of findings from the Comprehensive National Survey and the inputs provided by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
According to the National Comprehensive Survey conducted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, there are more than 60 million drug users in the country of which a large number of users are in the age group of 10-17 years.
These vulnerable districts were identified on the basis of findings from the Comprehensive National Survey and the inputs provided by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
Speaking on the occasion, DC, Kamjong Rangnamei Rang Peter stated that the main objective of the launch of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan is to give awareness of the dreaded and harmful effects of drugs among the general public, particularly the youths.
The DC opined that the future of our new generation is in a very critical condition with the rise of the number of drug users among the youths.
The DC farther stated that the biggest enemy of the youths is drug and other psychotropic substances which have eroded the social strata.
Highlighting that the number of drug related deaths and crimes have increased tremendously over the last few years, the DC maintained that the Government and other law enforcing agencies cannot be held solely responsible for this grim situation.
The DC farther stated that it is not only the parents but also the teachers and community leaders who need to take a crucial role in fighting the menace of drugs and other amongst the youths.
The Deputy Commissioner also launched the Long Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN) for prevention of mosquitobite related diseases during the function.
Chief Medical Officer (CEO) Kamjong Dr Lucy Duidang and District Social Welfare Officer, Kamjong A Tamphasana Chanu also delivered lectures at length about the cause and harmful effects of drug abuse.
Today's programme was also attended by the Superintendent of Police, Sub-Divisional Officer and District Malaria Officer of Kamjong along with Headman of Kasom Khullen, students and teachers.
