Ukhrul,July 23 2015:
Imminent Social Activist of Ukhrul District Hungyohong has ardently called for a logical conclusion in the ongoing agitation spearheaded by JCILPS demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in the State.
"The ongoing ILPS agitation already spanning over a month has cost us all dearly as all normal activities in the State have been virtually brought to a grinding halt, but the worst affected has been the student community" Hungyohong told Hueiyen Lanpao during an interaction at his office in Phungreitang East on Thursday.
Besides losing the precious life of one student Robinhood, the student community of the State has suffered an irreparable loss of their chance of attending various interviews and examinations within the State and outside, he lamented.
At the risk of sounding himself a little self-appointed, he then said that: "Much as I am aware that no tribal communities are involved in the ongoing movement, nevertheless seeing the myriad hardships being faced by the public during the course of the agitation I feel bound to appeal to both the State Government and the agitators to bring the ILPS issue to its logical conclusion at the earliest.
As for the non participation by tribal communities, he attributed the same to the lack of coordination among the valley-based civil societies and hill-based civil organizations.
He pointed out that there are no tribal representatives in State apex bodies like UCM and AMUCO.
Exuding confidence in the Government, he said that as of now, it has declared that it would submit a fresh bill on ILPS for the state within the shortest time possible.
Apart from forming a drafting committee, the Government has invited the leaders of JCILPS to work as Co-opted Members of the Committee so as to incorporate and ensure every legitimate interest including protection of land and properties of the indigenous people of the state in the bill about to be drafted, he maintained."My appeal to both the government and the agitating public is then to find a meeting point and carry out the commitment made public by the government and find a peaceful and fruitful ending of the agitation at the soonest," Hungyohong further said while appealing the State Government to withdraw both the public curfew and imposition of 144 CrPc immediately.
