Imphal, May 23 2023: Naga People's Front (NPF) Manipur president and water resources minister Awangbow Newmai has stressed the need for finding ways to initiate talks with different sections of the society in order to restore peace and nor-malcy in the state.

Addressing a press meet after an executive meet of the party at the party's state office at Tango] Tatung here on Tuesday, Awangbow said that the party strongly condemns the violence that unfolded in the state since May 3.It is time to let the past go and all the 34 communities of the state join together to restore peace and normalcy while shunning violence.

As perpetrators of the violence will eventuallybe exposed in the course of investigation the immediate need is to restore peace, he said and appealed to all concerned to stop blocking national highway amid the crisis as the highways are the lifelines for the state and its people.

Continuing such activities will only create further tension, he said.

The common people do not want violencebut to live in peace.

Both communities involved in the con-flict reacted impulsively in the heat of the moment but it is time to rethink and showcase humanity to restore peace while keeping aside the differences, emotions and sentiments, he said.

The minister also spoke on the impact of the violence on education and socio-economy, and added that it is the people of the state who will only suffer by letting the violence continue.

NPF legislators, working presi-dent, general secretary and district leaders were also present at the press meet.
