Discourse dissects 'state of manners'

IPR director Ngangom Uttam has stated that it is the responsibility of each and every to ensure all, irrespective of whether they are related or not, are taught decorum and rectify any improper ones.
On Sunday, Share and Care (SAC), Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal with the support of Gallberry Life Sciences Private Limited, Guwahati organised an awareness programme on the present state of manners, at the DIPR auditorium, here.
Speaking on the topic of "Role of Citizens in enhancing discipline in the society", which was moderated by retired IAS RK Nimai, director Uttam stressed that it is the responsibility of everyone to correct any improper behaviour regardless of whether there is any blood relation or not.

However, he pointed that if any elderly points out any wrong behaviour, they are often met with scorn or contempt.
Families often go to great lengths to defend or cover up any mistake of their children and term it as an act of jealousy against their children.
Instead of such irrational attitude, he suggested appreciating the advice of the elders and rectifying misconducts.
Uttam continued that there is a need to examine the role of the people for degradation of the society.
He cited the examples of students in full school uniforms smoking cigarettes, with no adult scolding them for the same.
Thus, everyone plays a role in all the good and bad happening in the society, he said, while stating that good upbringing equates to a better society.
SAC founder Dr RK Lenin stressed the need for parents to be extra-attentive to their children and for the teachers not to focus just on the books to be taught but on also teaching life and social skills to become better citizens of the future.
The first session was also attended by retired IPS (Nagaland) P Sonamani and MCCHRC chairman cum MD Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh as speakers.
The second session held on the topic "Role of Media in enhancing Discipline in the society" EGM president Khogendra Khomdram as the moderator, had AMWJU vice president Raj Nongthombam, AIR Imphal programme executive Raichand Chingtham and video journalist Wahengbam Kumarjit as speakers.
The third session was held on the topic "Role of School in enhancing discipline" and moderated by St Anthony School, Imphal East principal Suchitra Potsangbam, with Don Bosco High School, Langjing assistant teacher Ningthem Chingsubam as the speaker.
