Works Minister inspects flood affected areas in Sugnu

Imphal, July 22 2011:
Increase in the water level of Chakpi river and Manipur river has led to flooding of various places in Sugnu.
Minister Ranjit paid a personal visit to the flood affected families.
Minister Ranjit distributed 70 bags of rice bag, 14 bags of dal, 10 bags of potatoes, edible oils and salts in Chingtam community hall, Tangjeng relief camp and also at various relief camps opened along the roadside.
He also gave an amount of ' 10,000 for procurement of medicines.
Around 1100 persons are currently staying in the relief camps opened in these areas.
Ranjit said plans have been proposed to start the Chakpi Multipurpose Project.
The project will start after approval arrives from the Central Water Commission.
The project will benefit paddy fields in Thoubal district and provide potable water and power.
In another incident the banks of the Khabi river banks have breached resulting in the flooding in Konthoujam A/C.MLA Sarat paid a personal visit to the breached site.
IFCD officials told reporters that the work to raise the banks of the river was done without the knowledge of the concerned department by Deputy Speaker Th Lokeshor and Dr.S Ranjan.
As a result the river banks have been breached and the people are facing flood problems.
