Imphal, April 22 2022:
While extending revolutionary salute to forefathers of Manipur who valiantly fought the British during different battles of Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891, the proscribed Coordination Committee (CorCom) has said that the forefathers fought the mighty British to protect Manipur.
On the eve of Khongjom Day on Saturday (April 23), the conglomerate of armed groups operating in Manipur acknowledged sacrifices of the Manipur forefathers and their fierce resolve towards protecting the nation.
According to a CorCom statement issued by its publicity committee, April 23 reminds the people about patriotic spirit of forefathers of Manipur who paid more importance to saving the nation than their precious life.
It is due to their sacrifice that today's generation could survive, the CorCom added.
According to the statement issued by media coordinator M Sak-hen, India has been celebrating 75 years of its independence (1947-2022) since the past few years in the name of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' .
As part of the programme, India has been launching a campaign entitled 'Unsung heroes' to re-introduce freedom fighters who did not figure in its own earlier freedom movement history by highlighting their courage and valour.
This campaign, however, is a part of 'one nation, one people, one culture' agenda of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) which is driving the present government.
The CorCom further said that people of Manipur (Kangleipak) started getting the impact of colonial rule since the adoption of Hindu religion in the 18th century and there has been never ending attempt to link Manipur to 'Mahabharat' epic to claim that Kangleipak was part of India since the ancient period.
As government of Manipur supports this attempt, a handful of indigenous people consider this as true and this idea developed since the beginning of the 18th century is tending to have some takers in the 20th century.
However, history is based on fact and many Indian historians including RC Majumdar made it clear that Manipur (Kangleipak) is not Manipur mentioned in 'Mahabharat' epic and people inhabiting the land are not descendants of the Aryan stock as claimed by India.
This has proven that Manipur (Kangleipak) does not figure in the ancient history of India but has its own unique history and tradition.
The conglomerate group also recalled how the British interfered in the internal affairs of Manipur and occupied the nation which became powerful in the initial period of 18th century and continued to maintain its own independent status despite facing numerous hurdles till 1891 war.
No agreements and documents signed between the British and Manipur (Kangleipak) before the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 mentioned that Manipur was colonised by the British.
While negating the claim that India's tricolour was hoisted for the first time at Moirang, the CorCom statement said that Indian National Army leader Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the flag for the first time at Andaman Nicobar Islands on December 30, 1943 .
Citing reason for reminding this fact, the CorCom statement pointed out that some local experts and saboteurs claiming to be Indians are trying to link the incident of hoisting of INA flag at Moirang on April 14, 1944 as a part of the history of freedom movement of India and Manipur (Kangleipak).
Taking serious note of India's Home minister Amit Shah's announcement made on April 7, 2022 that Hindi will replace every language of indigenous people and make it India's lingua franca, the CorCom said that imposition of Hindi will give immense threat to smaller communities of WESEA region.
It also said, that imposition of Hindi at a time when UNESCO has put the language of Kangleipak (Kangleilon) among vanishing languages of the globe indeed is an attempt and new ploy to suppress arid wipe indigenous people of the region.
