Kangpokpi, February 22 2015:
Joint Action Committee on Kadangband Killing on Monday resolved to suspend the ongoing economic blockade but cautioned that an extreme agitation could be re-launched at anytime depending on the "sincerity and integrity" of the magisterial inquiry report which was awaited.
The decision to suspend the stir followed after the joint meeting of the JAC with various Kuki civil society organizations in Imphal on Sunday.
JAC Convener Thangminlen Haokip said the decision was taken after the advice offered by Kuki Inpi Manipur.
Blaming the State Government's indifference as the cause of the current impasse, JAC Convener said that if the Government had the sense to show concern for the sentiments of the agitators, the 5-day economic blockade would not have been launched in the first place.
He said that during the blockade no untoward incident occurred as all the truckers or transporters have respected the issue.
The Convener also claimed that during the blockade the JAC has taken utmost care to provide an atmosphere conducive enough for the students to appear their exams without any problem.
"Our resolve to launch the economic stir is just a tip of an iceberg", maintained Thangminlen Haokip before cautioning that if the Government continues to be indifferent, the JAC will resort to other extreme measures and "agitate in a language they can understand, the cost of which will be heavy" .
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) had appealed JAC to suspend its ongoing economic blockade along the national highways.
According to a statement, the representatives of Kuki Inpi Manipur met the District Magistrate at his office on February 19 and held discussion about the magisterial inquiry on Kadangband killing.
The DM informed that the magisterial inquiry has been constituted and will be conducted with impartiality and transparency within two months.
