Call for peace reverberates on Anti-Terrorism Day
Ibobi bats with dialogue for speedy devt

Observing Anti-Terrorism day at Manipur Secretariat Complex, Chief Minister O Ibobi has called for peaceful dialogue with all concerned in order to get rid of violence and bring speedy development in the state.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the observance, Chief Minister O Ibobi observed that Anti Terrorism day is being observed throughout the country to commemorate death anniversary of late Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, who was killed in a bomb blast triggered by terrorists during an election in Tamil Nadu.
The dreadful incident had been condemned throughout the world.
The Chief Minister maintained that people in different parts of the world are being bombarded with various types of threats.
Among them the threat of terrorism is one of the biggest and the deadliest.
A number of lives have been lost and properties worth crores have been destroyed in acts of terrorism unleashed throughout the world.
The Chief Minister went on to say that late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi believed in the policy of peaceful talks for all types of problems.
He always favoured the approach of all groups choosing path of peaceful talks with the government.
In 1985, the Punjab Accord was signed and in 1986, the Mizoram Accord was signed thereby bringing peace back to the strife torn states.
Rajiv Gandhi was also strongly against the political defection in the country as he believed that political instability in the state tends to bring down the politics of the country.
As such, he banned Political Defection in 1985, through a legislation which ultimately brought about political stability the country.
The function was also attended by Home Minister Gaikhangam, Education Minister M Oken, RD & PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa.
All the participants also took pledge to shun violence and promote peace and social harmony on the occasion.
In commemoration of Anti-Terrorism Day, 30 Assam Rifles and 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) organised a series of drawing competitions and lectures for youth at Nilakuti, Sawombung, Khurukhul, Chingmeirong, Temple of Learning School at Andro and Mission High School at Machingpat.
According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S), these competitions were organised with an aim to wean away the youth from terrorism and violence cult by highlighting the sufferrings of common people and showing how it is prejudicial to the State & National interest.
23 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) also observed Anti-Terrorism Day today at Battalion Headquarters and its various Posts along with rallies conducted by School Children holding banners, placards and shouting slogans against Terrorism.
Counseling was also conducted for village GBs, Secretaries and Village Authorities to mark the occasion.
Our Kakching correspondent adds: Observing the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as Anti Terrorism Day today, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Thoubal organised a blood donation camp to create mass awareness on the dangers of terrorism at Jeevan Hospital Kakching in collaboration with Lions Club of Kakching Greater, Sena Athletic Organisation, NSS Unit of Kha Manipur College,Kakching and SP Thoubal under the financial and technical support from Manipur State Blood Transfusion Council, Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) and Department of Immunohaematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT), RIMS Imphal.
Prof.N.Mohendro Singh, Former Member Steering Committee,NER-Vission-2020,GOI,K.Radhakumar Singh, IAS,Deputy Commissiner of Thoubal,Lion P.Nimai Singh,President Lion Club Of Kakching Greater, Dr.Ashok kumar Singh, Managing Director of Jeevan Hospital, Kakching, took part in the inaugural function of the observance as chief guest, president and guest of honours respectively.
Delivering the key note address, District youth Co-ordinator Y.Laksman Singh explained that the objective of observing Anti Terrorism day is to highlight the sufferings of the common people and wean away the youths from terrorist activities.
Terrorism is a heinous crime carried out by human beings against mankind.
India has been worse affected by terrorism.
The former Prime Minister, the youngest and most dynamic leader of India became a victim of terrorism.
It has become the duty of every citizen of India, particularly the youths to come forward, join hands and fight against terrorism by all means.
He also expressed hope that observing Anti-terrorism Day in Thoubal District with voluntary blood donation by the youths and the people of this district would bring a positive impact in the minds of the people.
This humble effort would help in bringing peace, unity and harmony in the state of Manipur.
In the blood donation awareness programme, A.K.Deveshware Singh, Consultant (VVD) of MACS; H.Pradeep Singh, Consultant (Youth Affairs), MACS and Dr.L.R.Kom,Director, SBTC, Manipur spoke as resource persons.
In all 78 people including 7 female donated their blood.
The observance concluded along with administering Anti-Terrorism pledge to all the participants by the chief guest.
