Locals block NH-37 stretch

Imphal, March 20 2012: Peeved over the alleged negligence of NH-37 (Imphal-Jiri Road) by the authorities concerned, local people today blocked portions of the stretch to register their protest.

Locals staged a road block today at Salam Leikai along the Imphal-Jiri Highway.

Locals have complained that the condition of the road is becoming worse day by day due to alleged negligence by the authority concerned.

It has started to pose health hazard to the roadside dwellers.

The protesters gathered together since morning.

Entry and plying of any vehicle on the stretch was banned.

They threatened that the protest would be intensified unless the road is improved at the earliest time.

They complaint that the authority had sometimes back scattered some stones on the road.

However, that just turned out only a pretension.

No attempt has been made till today for the renovation of the road.

They said that not only the road has posed health hazard to the roadside dwellers, the condition of the road is also dangerous for motorists plying on the road.
