Imphal, January 20 2013 :
Reacting against the lobbying tactics of NSCN-IM that Meeteis in the valley have been snatching the shares of the people in the hills, All Manipur United Clubs Association (AMUCO) has pointed out that the shares of the people in the hills are being used up by their own leaders who are settling luxuriously in the valley.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Village Open Football Tournament organized by Longa Koireng Youth Club at Longa Koireng village Ground in Senapati district today, KT Rehman, President of AMUCO, categorically stated that Manipur is a place where around 36 ethnic groups are settling peacefully.
It is also a State well known throughout the world in the field of games and sports.
He further stated that the State Government should take up certain welfare programmmes for the people both in the hills and the valley.
The Government should treat all the ethnic groups settling in Manipur with an equal eye.
Only then, the people in the State would be able to live peacefully in true spirit of oneness and brotherhood.
While clarifying over the allegations made to the Meeteis in the valley of snatching away the shares of people in the hills, KT Rehman said that their shares are being used up by those leaders of the hills who have come down to settle in the valley.
There is also no report of Meeteis misusing the funds meant for development of the hills under the Tribal Welfare Department, he asserted.
"It is because of the tribal Government employees who do not want to be posted in the interior of the hills districts and lack of interest on the parts of their own elected MLAs that the hill areas in Manipur have remain underdeveloped for so long", Rehman said, adding 'it is time for us to discuss the matter seriously' .
The function was also attended by O Tondon, Pradhan of Maklang GP; S Amutombi, Asst Director of YAS, Government of Manipur and W Khelrang Koireng, Chairman of Longa Koireng Youth Club as presidium members.
