Dengue cases reach 64 in Moreh

The number of dengue cases in the Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh is increasing gradually and total positive cases reached 64 as of Friday.
In view of the increasing dengue cases in the border town, state malaria department has deputed three staff and started making efforts to stop spread of the disease while fogging has started in Chavangphai Leikai and S Moljol village from Friday.
As of Thursday, a total of 60 dengue positive cases were reported in Moreh and four more people contracted the disease on Friday, thus taking the total number of infected denizens to 64.Staff of special malaria unit of Moreh hospital had been conducting fogging and Larvicide spraying around surrounding of houses where dengue positive cases were detected since November 18.Nevertheless, many patients suffering from dengue have recovered and returned to their respective homes though some serious ones were referred to Imphal for further treatment.
As of Friday, a total of nine patients are undergoing treatment at Moreh sub-district hospital and it is fortunate that there has been no report of fatality till date though the disease took lives of many people in 2007.As per information provided by district health officials, a total of seven dengue cases were reported on November 18 which include four cases in Moreh Ward No 7 Chwangpai Leikai and one each case in Moreh Ward No 7 Santi Nagar Leikai, Moreh Ward No 7 Turel Wangma Leikai and Gamnom Veng.
The four fresh cases detected on Friday include two from Moreh Ward No 7 Chavangphai Leikai and one each case from Moreh Ward No 3 and Moreh Ward No 5.It may be mentioned that the first dengue positive case in the border town was detected at Moreh Ward No 5 Muslim Basti on October 26 and the number of positive cases increases gradually in different localities since then and the total positive cases as of November 17 was 53 .
