Thoubal, September 19 2024:
A public meeting held at Wangjing Lai-kol community hall on Thursday has condemned alleged statement by chief minister N Biren during a programme at Thambal Sanglen, Nityaipat Chuthek holding people of Thoubal, Wangjing and Heirok accountable to the unrest situation in the state.
The meet organised by clubs and organisations of Wangjing Kairembikhok and Wangjing Kairembikhok Apunba Ima Lup was attended by Ima Lup president Naorem Thoibi, secretary Laishram Santi and SOCDEC, Wangjing president Th Rojen as presidium members.
Various resolutions were adopted at the meeting including denouncing the CM's alleged divisive remark against Thoubal, Wangjing and Heirok denizens.
Speakers at the meet also pointed out that Thoubal denizens have been extended support for protecting villages in the ongoing conflict with many youths and state security personnel from Wangjing sacrificing their lives.
They also contended that the CM's disparaging comments testified that he has ulterior motive to divide Manipur.
His politically immature remark that Thoubal had chief ministership for 15 years, while Imphal has only been in power for seven years also underscores his partisan outlook, which is condemnable, the meet resolved.
The meeting also demanded that CM N Biren should immediately apologise to people of Thoubal for causing division among Meeteis at a time when the state is in turmoil and for portraying Thoubal in poor light amongst the public, otherwise they will launch intense agitation.
At the end of the meeting, the participants chanted slogans denouncing the CM's communal statement, demanding resolution to the ongoing conflict at the earliest and tender apology to the public.
Meanwhile, Leishangthem Apunba Lup (LAL) and meira paibi groups condemned CM's alleged irresponsible statement which has gone viral on social media.
In a release, LAL president Heigrujam Priyokumar appealed to the CM to abandon his narrow political vision and instead demonstrate responsibility as a leader to resolve the prevailing humanitarian crisis in the state.
