Imphal, June 18 2015 :
Reacting to the news report that the endangered brow-antlered deer "Sangai" will be translocated to Pumlen Pat by the Manipur Forest Department, Pumlen Lake Development Organisation today stated that the plans will put the lives of many people residing in Pumlen Pat at stake.
Since time immemorial, Pumlen Pat has served as a means of livelihood to thousands of people of the area, the organisation said in a statement.
To restore the deteriorating state of Pumlen Pat, residents have in the past urged the successive State Governments as well as the present State Government to initiate steps similar to those taken up for preserving the Loktak Lake.
The statement urged the State Forest Department to revoke the decision and restore Pumlen Lake and keep intact the livelihood source of the people.
The organisation also appealed to the State Government to take up action against encroachers in the area.
