As part of the Nation-wide strike to be launched by the Communist Parties and Trade Unions, the State units of the Communist Parties and Trade Unions have announced that a 12-hour state-wide general strike will be imposed on September 20 in protest against the price hike in diesel and giving more free hand on FDI in retail.
The strike will begin from 6 am and end at 6 pm.
A statement issued by the Coordinating Bodies of Trade Unions, Manipur said September 14 is a black day in the history of the Nation especially Manipur when the Prime Minister had announced a hike of Rs 5 in diesel price-Stating that NE region would be worst affected by the hike, the statement said.
Consequent upon the hike in diesel price, the apex body of the country's transporters body, the All India Motor Transport Congress has announced a 15 percent increase in freight charge.
In the backdrop of the situation, the people of economically, weaker states like Manipur would be the worst sufferer, said the Trade Unions statement.
To add salt to the wound, the Congress led Government has announced to provide 5 cylinders of subsidised LPG to a consumer in a year, it noted while urging all concerned to join in agitation to roll back the decision.
The statement urged all concerned organisations, business establishments, transporters unions, workers/ students, teachers, etc of the State to extend wide cooperation to the general strike.
