HC asks Govt to submit response

The High Court of Manipur has directed the state government to submit response over the failure of the government to provide the Rs 50,000 ex-gratia to Covid victims as directed by the Supreme Court of India.
In a statement, Human Rights Law Network director Rakesh Meihoubam informed that a double bench of the high court comprising chief justice PV Sanjay and justice MV Muralidaran heard a PIL filed by Keisham Pradipkumar through his counsel seeking the court's directive to the state government for providing ex-gratia to the victims of Covid-19 as per guidelines of the National Disaster Management Authority.
The petitioner mentioned about the directive issued by the apex court followed by notification of guidelines by NDMA on September 11.Later, on October 4 the apex court also issued directive to governments of 11 states including Manipur to provide the ex-gratia amount.
Consequently, on October 22, the petitioner submitted memorandum to the authority concerned of the state government urging translation of the SC directive into action but no initiatives have been taken up so far, the petitioner said in his PIL.
