Tourist Guide training programme begins

Inaugural function of a weeklong Tourist Guide Training programme organised by Manipur Tourism Forum was held today at Classic Hotel, North AOC.
Along with the inauguration of the training programme, being participated by 22 individuals, a prize distribution programme for participants/position winners of the World Tourism Day photo competition was also organised on the occasion.
Five participants, out of the total of 44 entries, were chosen for the top three awards and two consolation prizes.

Parliamentary Secretary (Tourism/YAS) M Prithviraj informed that maintaining decorum of a city area is very much a component of tourism development as the first impression for the tourists would be the health and hygiene of the city populace.
Stating that most of the metropolitan cities have equal emphasis on maintaining cleanliness along with development of tourism infrastructure as the populace are law-abiding citizens, the Moirang AC MLA opined that improvement in the education sector is a must to educate the citizens on diverse issues.
Conceding that inspite of huge tourism potential Manipur lacks infrastructure and a stable law and order situation, he also pointed out the hospitality sector needs to improve to attract both foreign and domestic tourists.
Commissioner (Tourism) Dr Rajesh Kumar in his address, asserted that cleanliness of human habitat areas signify standard of the society's civilization.
Conveying that further development works of Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen at Palace Compound and another mega project at Loktak Lake would be initiated soon, the Commission desired that more intense publicity campaign be launched for a wider reach of the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival.
According to Manipur Tourism Forum president Dr Th Dhabali Singh there is need for more trained tourist guides in view of increasing number of tourists arriving in the State.
He exuded confidence that the training programme could bridge the gap and boost development of the tourism sector.
