Frequent power outages in Thoubal district trouble locals

Thoubal, July 16 2024: Frequent power outages and erratic power supply in Thoubal district since the past two months have enhanced the inconveniences of the power consumers in the district manifold.

Speaking to this correspondent of TSE, many power consumers of Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL) and Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPCL) of Thoubal district have raised serious concern over the frequent power outages issue since the past few months.

Expressing discontentment over the erratic power supply causing immense inconveniences and hindering normal day to day functioning, the aggrieved consumers said, 'We are encountering power outages every hour on a regular basis'.

The customers went on to state that when inquired to relevant authorities whether load shedding practice is being implemented, no clear response has been received apart from the response that there is no power supply from Yurembam or Kuraopokpi.

Further there is no formal notification from the higher authorities about load shedding in the district, they said.

They highlighted that the customers who are using prepaid power systems are the most affected ones despite regularly recharging for their domestic power use.

Though the consumers are experiencing immense difficulties due to erratic power supply in the district, MSPDCL and relevant authorities in the district have not raised the issue to the higher authorities.

In view of the plights of the power consumers of the district, they sought the attention of the relevant authorities to address the issue at the earliest to ensure that they receive regular power supply.

The discontented customers maintained that they did not raise any complaints when they raised prolonged power outages due to devastating hailstorms and heavy rains in the previous months owing to damaged electric poles and connecting wires.
