Arrest order for CRPF jawan for attempted rape

Imphal, May 15, 2013:
The Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal has given an order to City Police to arrest a CRPF jawan, who has been charged with attempted rape of a woman in the office of State Bank of India at MG Avenue.
The woman hails from Imphal East and works as a sweeper in SBI, MG Avenue Branch.
The accused CRPF jawan has been identified as Rajesh Kumar Yadav.
He belongs to the 69 Battalion of CRPF stationed at Mantripukhri.
Talking to media persons in this regard at the office of Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), advocate L Sivananda said that the victim works as a sweeper in the office of SBI, MG Avenue branch.
As usual, she came to the office early in the morning yesterday (May 14) and was doing her duty when Rajesh Kumar Yadav came up and attempted to rape her.
The jawan ran away from the scene when the victim raised an alarm for help.
L Sivananda further informed that HRLN had filed an FIR in the City Police.
Accordingly, the police went to SBI office and asked the senior officers of the CRPF to hand over the accused.
The officer present on duty assured to hand over the accused CRPF jawan but no response has been received so far.
On the contrary, CRPF officials have informed that the accused CRPF jawan cannot be handed over to the State police without the consent of the Central Government.
So, HRLN went to the court and filed a petition following which the Court has passed an order to arrest the CRPF jawan.
