CM decodes violence, yearns solution

hief minister N Biren inaugurated a Mini Sports Complex at Akampat SEYO Club Ground in Imphal East district, and a football held with RCC Gallery at Chajing under Wangoi sub-division in Imphal West district on Friday.
The Mini Sports Complex, constructed at a cost of Rs 20 crore, aims to bolster sporting infrastructure in the region.
Similarly, the football field at Chajing, constructed under the Khelo India Scheme, was completed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.08 crore.
Addressing the gathering, Biren said that the state is passing through a rough phase due to an unprecedented ethnic conflict that broke out on May 3 last year.
Self-centric ideas are the main cause of such crisis in a multi-ethnic state like Manipur.
People need to put first the collective welfare of the people instead of confining in the individual community.
The government was caught off-guard by the May 3 crisis, which was well-planned under the guise of a solidarity rally.
However, the central and state governments are working hard to bring a solution and ensure resettlement of the affected people, he said, adding that the state government must continue taking up developmental activities even during these hard times though it may take some time to bring a solution to the ongoing crisis.
The CM also stressed the need to stand unitedly, maintaining that the government has firm resolve to uphold integrity of Manipur and deal with all seriousness elements trying to cause discord in the state.
Recalling the hardship faced by sportspersons in early days due to financial constraints, the CM highlighted that various welfare schemes' have been introduced for sportspersons, specifically mentioning government's decision to provide suitable jobs to gold medallists of National Games as well as national and international championships.
Biren assured to accord top priority to the construction of gallery and boundary wall around the Hockey Stadium at the Mini Sports Complex in Akampat and construct a hostel later.
He also proposed to upgrade the complex to an academy and assured to explore possibilities of constructing a VIP galley of the football field at Chajing.
Biren further appreciated the contractors and the Youth Affairs and Sports Department for completing the Mini Sports Complex in time with proper quality control.
Delivering his speech as the functional president, Youth Affairs and Sports minister Govindas Konthoujam said that many players of Manipur represented the state and the country in different arenas and brought laurels.
As such, the government had taken up various development works in the field of games and sports, recognising the contribution of players, he added.
He appreciated the Chief Minister for giving priority in sports sector and for introducing welfare schemes like Chief Minister's Sportspersons Livelihood Guarantee Scheme among others.
He also stressed the need to maintain the sports infrastructure properly with a sense of belongingness.
Power minister Th Biswajit, Social Welfare minister H Dingo, transport minister Khashim Vashum, MLAs Karam Shyam, Kh Ibomcha, Kongkham Robindro, Khuraijam Loken, Th Arunkumar, Sapam Kunjakeswor, Th Shanti, Md Ashab Uddin and senior officials of youth affairs and sports department also attended the programme.
