Imphal, November 14 2019:
The Meitei Pangal Khunthok Ningshing Thouram (Meipak Ningthou) Committee has accused the All Manipur Muslim Organisations Coordination Committee (AMMOCOC) of projecting all its activities in the wrong light not only in Manipur but also before the whole world.
Speaking to media persons at the Sega Road, Konjeng Hazari Leikai office of AMESCO this evening, Meipak Ningthou Committee co-convenor Singakhongbam Wajid Shah said that the committee was constituted at the office of AMESCO with the primary objective of determining the date and year of the first settlement of Meitei Pangals in Manipur.
It was announced through media on August 18 this year that Meipak Ningthou Committee was formed with members drawn from Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO), All Manipur Muslim Development Organisation (AMMDO), National Research Centre (NRC), All Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation (AMMWDO), Pangal Students Organisation (PSO) and AMESCO.
Due deliberations to determine the date and year of first settlement of Meitei Pangals in Manipur started on September 22.It was also announced through media on September 24 that a two-day seminar would be held on November 9 and 10, Wajid Shah said.
Based on history books, documents and papers read out at the seminar which was attended by Puya scholars, historians and academicians, it was determined that the 17th day of Manipuri calendar month Inga of 1606 was the first day of Meitei Pangal settlement in Manipur, he conveyed.
Resolutions adopted at the seminar did not contain which say or project Meitei Pangals as war captives, Wajid clarified.
It is a matter of grave concern that AMMOCOC came out with an allegation that Meipak Ningthou Committee was constituted with just one organisation of Meitei Pangals and it (seminar) reflected deliberation on Meitei Pangals as war captives, he decried.
If one is saying that the 17th day of Inga, 1606 is not the day Meitei Pangals made their first settlement in Manipur, it would be tantamount to discrediting the Nongshamei Puya and all the works of distinguished scholars and historians, Wajid remarked.
Saying that Meitei Pangal intellectuals and scholars staying outside Manipur were invited to the seminar but did not turn up, the co-convenor asked as to why they are misleading the masses only today.
He went on to ask AMMOCOC and others how they see the constituent members of the Meipak Ningthou Committee.
If AMMOCOC is saying that the resolutions adopted at the meeting were wrong, it can be assumed that AMMOCOC already knew the date and year of the first Meitei Pangal settlement in Manipur, Wajid remarked while asking AMMOCOC to come out with the exact date and year tomorrow itself.
It is rather surprising that AMMOCOC is going to organise a seminar to re-determine the date and year of the first Meitei Pangal settlement in Manipur when they already know the particular date and year, he added.
