National Lok Adalat settles disputes worth over ₹2 crore

Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) and District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) on Saturday jointly conducted the 3rd National Lok Adalat in different districts and settled matters worth over Rs 2 crore.
According to a press release issued by MASLSA member secretary, the National Lok Adalat was conducted in Thoubal, Bishnupur, Ukhrul, Senapati, Churachandpur, Chandel, Tamenglong, Tengnoupal and Jiribam districts.
However, the Lok Adalat for Imphal East and West districts was postponed to September 22 in view of the prevailing law and order situation.
High Court Legal Services Com mittee also conducted the National Lok Adalat at the High Court of Manipur on Saturday and settled many of the pending cases.
In all, 1500 pending and pre-litigation cases including civil and criminal compounding cases, bank recovery, MACT, matrimonial dispute, Negotiable Instruments Act and water bill cases were listed for hearing.
A total of 210 cases were taken up, of which 173 were successfully settled and around Rs 2,30,16,130 recovered.
MASLSA extended its gratitude to presiding officer, judicial officers, media coordinator advocate as Debanand, advocates, PLVs, staff of court and State Legal Authority, and officials of banks and insurance companies who helped make the Adalat a success.
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Chandel also organised the 3rd National Lok Adalat for Chandel and Tengnoupal districts under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) and National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) at the court complex of the CJM, Chandel on Saturday.
Two benches were constituted in the National Lok Adalat.
Bench No 1 was presided over by DLSA, Chandel secretary Masana E Panmei as chairperson along with advocates RK Mohendro Singh and retainer lawyer Jacky Lucy as members of the bench.
Bench No 2 was presided over by judicial magistrate first class, Moreh Fakhrul Islam Choudhary as chairperson along with assistant public prosecutor M Gairanlung and advocate Keishang Kopham as members of the bench A total of 70 bank recovery cases and two pre-litigation/pending cases were listed.
Out of the total cases listed, 17 bank recovery cases were settled and disposed in the said National Lok Adalat.
