Imphal, June 14 2011: A pharmacist of the Health Department was shot dead by unidentified assailants tonight on his way home at Tonaba Leirak near Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar under Wangoi police station.

Huidrom Jiten (45) of Yumnam Huidrom Khunyai Leikai was shot twice by the assailants at 8.40 pm on his way home with two friends.

Two unidentified persons who were at a corner of Tonaba Leirak near Cosmo High School stopped them and told Jiten they wanted to discuss a certain matter with him, the report said quoting eyewitness accounts.

When Jiten approached them, one of the assailants took out a hand gun and shot Jiten two times and left the scene hurriedly.

Jiten breathed his last at the spot, the report added.

Police as well family of the victim are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder of Jiten.

Wangoi police retrieved the dead body from the spot and transferred it to the RIMS morgue for official procedures.
