X-mas shoppers get the taste of SF brutality

Three persons from Chandel district who were allegedly picked up by a combined team of Army and State police commandos were let off after torturing them brutally and robbing them of Rs 90,000. According to Thadou Students' Association, Chandel district (TSA-Chandel district), the three victims identified as Lalboi Mate (38) of Khudengthabi village, Thanglal Baite (36) of Moreh town Ward No.9 and Haopu Mate (36), also from Moreh Ward No 9 were shopping for Christmas at Paona Bazar, Imphal when the combined team picked them up, blind folded and took them elsewhere at around 7:30 pm on December 11. The three innocent victims were tortured by the security personnel the whole night accusing them to be criminals and their mobile phone handsets (Nokia brand) were also taken away.
They were let off only in the following morning near FCI godown at Sangaiprou area.
The students' body further alleged that one of the police commando personnel came and demanded Rs 1 lakh from each of the three victims if they did not want to be killed.
The victims had been asked to bring the money after they were released by contacting the telephone numbers of their own mobile phones that were seized from them by the security force personnel.
They were also told not to tell anyone including their spouses about the incident.
It is said that Lalboi Mate is the father of five children; Thonglal Mate is the father of three while Haopu Mate is the father of six children.
The victims are presently undergoing treatments at Christian Hospital, Imphal.
Taking serious note over the incident, TSA-Chandel district has urged the concerned authority to book the security force personnel involved in the incident at the earliest possible and warned of taking recourse to strong agitation in collaboration with other civil organizations if the culprits were not identified and given befitting punishment.
