NPO reforms customary court, states stand on road projects

A 10-member judicial board drawn from five major tribes in Senapati district has been inducted in the Naga People's Organization (NPO), Senapati, during a simple induction cum oath-taking ceremony held at the NPO conference hall on Tuesday.
The judicial board comes under secretary, customary law and it will be responsible for administration of justice as per customary law and practices.
The previous board reportedly received only one case in the local judicial court under NPO.
Solomon Arow, president NPO, hoped that no serious case would come in future.
The newly inducted judicial members are RK Luikang and M John from Thangal tribe, VS Joseph and OK Shang from Poumai Naga tribe, Engau Francis and R Kuba Domanic from Zeliangrong tribe, Pf Joseph and Shahra Kaisii from Mao tribe, and Karaihing and Luikang Anthony from Maram tribe.
The new members took oath to uphold the unity and integrity of NPO and to faithfully discharge their duties as members of Naga Customary Court under NPO, Senapati in accordance with the judicial manual and the customary law without fear or favour, affection or ill will.
Meanwhile, NPO informed the general public about the ongoing work/development of Kedima-Tobufii-Biisho-Karong road (Karong-Kedima 66kms), 2 lanes in Manipur and Nagaland which is in progress within Senapati district.
The statement signed by Jonah Mao K, general secretary NPO, mentioned that no individual, group, organisation, village or community should hamper or disturb the ongoing construction work in any manner.
The said road will not only serve as alternative conveyance to the populace of the district but also to the state as a whole.
For any land dispute or imbroglio, the matter should be settled in a competent court and the dispute should not disturb the development programme of the district, it stated.
Formalities of land compensation and registration of land ownership should be initiated by the authority concerned and all legitimate land owners are stated to be duly compensated as per government rate, NPO added.
