3 killed, 1 wounded at Chakpikarong CHC

Imphal, July 13 2014:
At least 3 persons including a police personnel lost their lives while one labourer sustained injuries in a tragic incident which took place at Chakpikarong Community Health Centre in Chandel District Saturday night.
According to report, the incident happened at around 8.00 p.m when one of the labourers indentified as Naorem Hemokut Singh S/o late N.Sanatomba of Kakching Paji Leikai, who is engaged in renovation of X-Ray and Ultra sound rooms of Chakpikarong Community Health Centre started attacking his colleagues without any reason with his bare hands.
His co-workers overpowered and tied his hands, and confined him inside a building awaiting arrival of police to take him into custody.
However, he escaped from the confinement and suddenly attacked another co-worker who ran away with injury.
Later on, the assailant killed a policeman and a civilian who came to the Health Centre to meet his wife.
In their attempt to overpower him, the assailant was reportedly killed in police firing.
After the incident, infuriated mob who gathered at the spot of the incident prevented the police to recover the two dead bodies and burnt down a white coloured Maruti Gypsy belonging to the police team.
The deceased civilian and police personnel were identified as Bs.
Tonhring Anal S/o Bs.
Angching Anal of Anal Khullen and D.Kothang Maring (constable No.0906074) of Heinoukhong village in Chandel District, while the other injured person as one Pukhrambam Nilakanta Singh (43) S/o Late P.Babudon Singh of Kakching Khunjai Leikai in Thoubal District.
While speaking to the media persons, Pukhrambam Nilakanta Singh, who also works as a labourer along with 10 others in renovation of work of the health centre, said that he was attacked by his co-worker, Naorem Hemokut Singh, who was earlier kept in a confined room.
As the police arrived, the assailant was handed over to them, the labourer said, adding that the police team detained him and kept him in the kitchen from where the assailant managed to escape.
According to police sources, on receiving a report of a psychiatric man attacking people inside the Health Centre, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot and saw a dead body lying on the northern gate of the Health Centre.
As the police team was searching for the attacker using torch light, one of the police personnel was attacked and killed by the assailant with a machete on the spot.
In the ensuing melee, other police personnel opened fire and captured the assailant after overpowering him.
However, the assailant died on the way to Police Station due to bullet injury, police sources said.

Nunghlung Victor and leaders of various civil organizations attended a public meeting held at Anal Chiefs' Association Hall in Chakpikarong in connection with the Saturday's night incident.
Meanwhile, the dead bodies have been taken away by the respective bereaved families after arriving at an understanding with the authority concerned.
